Some Little Known Facts About Queen Elizabeth II



In honor of Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee

1. In 2012 at 85 years of age the Queen is the oldest monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee (60 years as a reigning monarch). The younger ones just let them slip by unnoticed.

2. The Queen speaks fluent French and often uses the language for audiences and state visits. Particularly when she doesn't want the visitor to know what she is saying.

3. The Queen has two birthdays. Her real birthday is April 21. Her public birthday is celebrated in June due to the warmer weather. Presents are welcome on both annual occasions.

4. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have been married for more than 60 years. They were married in 1947. They did not have an Elvis impersonator at the reception.

5. The Queen has 9 royal thrones: One at the House of Lords, two at Westminster Abbey, and six in the throne room at Buckingham Palace. None are recliners.

6. The Queen and her husband share the same great, great grandmother – Queen Victoria. Neither ever met her.

7. The Queen has posed for 139 official portraits in her lifetime, the first being at just 7 years old. As for candid photos, we are still counting.

8. The Queen was the first, and so far, only female member of the royal family to join the armed services. The rest had flat feet and were turned away.

9. The Queen officially joined the world of Facebook in 2010 and now has over 318,000 fans/likes. Poke her today, why don't you.

10. At 85 years of age, Queen Elizabeth II is Britain’s oldest Monarch. Her Majesty routinely sends out telegrams to her subjects who reach the age of 100. When she turns 100 she can send herself a congratulatory telegram.
