Day 5 - The Isle of Capri - Friday, April 28

We were up fairly early, for one of the most sumptuous breakfast of all the wonderful breakfast that we had on our trip. Making even better was the setting. The dining room of the hotel overlooking the bay of Naples. During the night five cruise ships had come into the bay, And they were anchored just outside our windows. Very picturesque and very pretty. And of course, always in the background is Vesuvius.

From there we were taken to smaller shuttle type buses for the trip down to the harbor. And I do mean down. Not only down but around. Multitudinous hairpin turns . And down and down we went. I noticed that there was also a stairway for those who weren’t in vehicles. And I thought to myself, I would only do that once. If at all.

In the harbor, we bought it a much larger fairy type boat to take us across to the Adam Capri.  It was a fairly short ride. We arrived at the harbor, capri along with many many others who are visiting the island that day, who are arriving in many other boats

We went from the big boat to a small boat. There were several small boats to accommodate our entire tour group. This boat explore part of the coastline of Capri, we enjoyed seeing the Rocky hillsides, plunging out into the sea. Noticed our way up close to one of the grottoes, and went through, one of the big rocks offshore with an opening just large enough to accommodate about going through it. The air was racing, the sky was perfect blue, the waters were crystal clear. It was absolutely delightful.

Upon our return to the harbor, we were  Provided with four-door taxis, that would take us up to the top most point in Capri called Anna Capri. There we would spend the middle part of the day. We were given a tour out to the edge of the hillside overlooking the rest of Capri, do a villa that is now museum. We pass smog shops, and at that point shopped at one of them that specialize in all things lemon. Lemon, and being one of the chief agricultural products of the Sorrento area.  But back to that view. It was absolutely stunning. Far below, we could see the harbor where we had arrived on the island. And there was taken my favorite photo of the trip, of JUDY and I with all the capri behind us and below us.  Well understands why the island has captivated people since ancient times, and as recently as today, when many people whose names are well known, spend part of the year, enjoying life on this island, or boat, I should say, yacht, on its shores.

We had lunch up there, alfresco.  They had table set aside for a group, but we managed to sit at a table for two. We just went a few times on the trip, but we actually felt like we had our own little world. People were strolling by. The weight staff was very attentive dumping of Trisha. And the food was quite tasty as well.  We did a little bit of shopping in the little piazza before we returned down the mountain. This time we rode the pannicular down to the harbor. Being a native Pittsburgher, I am used to inclines. This one was not arranged exactly the same way, but it was quite effective. Of course getting there meant standing in line with lots of other people who are doing the same thing.  as we found everywhere else in Italy this season, it was absolutely overrun with tourists.

We had some free time before we would board our boat back to Sorrento. We strolled a little bit however, by that point, we were tired and thirsty. So we found a little table. One sat down and had something cold to drink while we watch the world go by.

I don’t return after freshening up as they say, off, we went again. This time in the big tour bus. Into a car park in Sorrento proper. From there we walked many blocks to our restaurant.

Now from the outside the restaurant looks like an ordinary building. My expects to go inside and find ordinary rooms. However, that is not the case. Instead, one goes inside and walks forward a bit, and comes to some stairs. Oh dear stairs again! However, mustering ones energy up the stairs one goes,  Out two flights worth straightahead. At the top one, and there’s a gigantic room with a glass ceiling and surrounded by lemon trees, and other what I would call hot house, variety, plants, and trees. It was indeed like eating in a very large garden, but under a glass roof. Quite breathtaking.

The food was fair. The service wasn’t quite up to any standards that we had seen elsewhere. The weight staff seemed like they were doing as a big favor to wait upon us, and I could see you looking around the large room that we were not the only tour group that was being accommodated. You would think the waiters would save themselves, here is my meal ticket, the tour group. I will treat them , with all the Italian charm I can muster. That thought must’ve been lost on the team that waited on our tables.

The concluding item on the menu was called lemon delight, kind of sponge cake that was covered with a lemonade icing. It was good. But not great. But imagined that it could’ve been great.  then should’ve been great. But as I say it was OK.
